After the International Solar Energy Research Centre Konstanz e.V. (ISC Konstanz) had already participated in online seminars as a presenter in 2024 and 2025, the ISC finally joined the network in November 2025 as a German know-how partner on issues relating to the optimisation and adaptation of PV cells and PV modules to the environmental conditions in Central Asia and the South Caucasus. Further collaborations on the topics of smart grids (solutions for increasing grid stability, resulting technical standards), applications of PV in agriculture, and innovations in power electronics (technical solutions for improving cybersecurity and resulting technical standards) are also in the planning stage.
ISC Konstanz was founded in 2005 by former employees of the University of Konstanz in Germany. Its research focuses on industry-oriented research into crystalline silicon photovoltaics. One line of research involves the manufacture of solar cells and modules from Cz-Si wafers using modern industrial equipment. In addition to cell research, research is also conducted into cell-cell connection technology, module reliability and various system aspects.
ISC Konstanz works closely with the office and member companies of the VDMA, Photovoltaics Production Equipment Division, and is, for example, a project partner of the VDMA and leading German PV research institutes in a public-funded PV Pilot project, which aims to shape the next generation of photovoltaic production in Europe. The central project goal is to develop a comprehensive strategy for increasing production efficiency, economic viability and technological innovation in solar photovoltaics.
Furthermore, the ISC Konstanz also has extensive experience in international solar research and development projects. For example, the institute has already implemented successful programmes in countries such as Chile (ATAMOSTEC) and Egypt (HH2OCC), where it has supported the establishment of research institutes, pilot plants and innovation centres, as is also planned in this project. Through these international partnerships, ISC Konstanz contributes comprehensive expertise in the areas of PV module types, battery technologies, hydrogen systems and smart grid integration of renewable energies, in addition to the competencies mentioned above. ISC Konstanz also has the expertise to develop modelling and simulation tools to optimise regional grids and energy systems.
