National University of Uzbekistan, named after Mirzo Ulugbek, is located in the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) was founded in 1918 and is the first and leading higher educational institution not only in Uzbekistan, but throughout the entire Central Asian region. From its foundation until 1923, the University was called \u201cTurkestan State University\u201d, from 1923 to 1960 it functioned under the name \u201cCentral Asian State University\u201d (SAGU), and from 1960 to 2000 it was called the \u201cTashkent State University\u201d. On January 28, 2000, a decree was signed assigning the status of “National University of Uzbekistan” to Tashkent State University, and under this name the university is known to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NUUz includes 14 faculties, having a student body of about 30 thousand undergraduate and graduate students. The teaching staff of the NUUz numbers about 1200 people, of which almost 75% hold a Doctor of Science (DSc), Candidate of Sciences or PhD degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National University of Uzbekistan is the first higher education institution in Uzbekistan that has organized the training of experts in the field of solar energy. Today, master students in the field of photovoltaics and renewable energy are given the opportunity to specialize in “Physics of semiconductors” and “Renewable energy sources and sustainable environment”.
